5-Letter Words With No Vowels — Rare Plays
While almost all English words require a vowel, there are several five-letter words that contain no standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U). These words rely on Y acting as a vowel (like CRYPT, DRYLY, GYPSY, NYMPH, SHYLY) or are rare abbreviations/onomatopoeias valid in some dictionaries.
In word games, these words are excellent defensive plays when you have a rack full of consonants and no vowels. In Wordle, they can be used to eliminate Y and multiple tricky consonants in a single guess.
